about

Originally written in honour of Colin Todd's decision to revert to a 4-4-2 formation after a disastrous start to the 1995/6 Premier League Season, this track depicts the heartache of supporting a club - and it could be any club, let's face it, never mind Bolton Wanderers - destined for a life outside the 'big six'.

This 2019 re-recording features samples of the dulcet tones of Dave Higson and Jack Dearden, legendary BWFC commentators both.

lyrics

The game is up
and I feel sick
and I can't bear to talk about it...
As we headed for the station
we took scant consolation: we didn't want to be here anyway

You broke my heart ten times or more
and fixed it with a flat back four
I should get my life back together

We stood subdued and silent
under the floodlight pylon
I've been let down, but not like this before
I know it's not betrayal
but when your hopes set sail
it's hard to stand there waving from the shore
