Dust 04:03
You fill my glass while I feel your arse It’s the way the deal works out It’s the way I get my thrills; it’s the way you pay the bills I dream of dancing with young majorettes Dancing caressing and cheap cigarettes Remember the time when we all took a shine to that picture of you with your trousers down Oh the dreams I’ve had would turn your sweetest dream sour Turn your good deeds bad turn your finest hour to dust When I told the tap room they wouldn’t oblige I had no option but to kiss the bride It’s the way she turns me on: one more pint I’m anyone’s Back at the old house I’ll kiss the dog Kick out the wife and spend hours on the bog Looking at pictures of reader’s wives and wishing how I lived those readers’ lives So I’ll raise a glass and I’ll wiggle my arse And let’s toast the bastard’s health It’s the way I get my thrills Anyone for beer and pills? And don’t keep the spirits just out of reach, you know how it hurts a man’s pride to beg Money is all I can offer to you So unzip your skirt and get into bed Oh the dreams I’ve had well I can’t complain And if you need the proof I can show the stains

When I miss the last bus I miss you as well And when I fake the last thrust I fake you as well There’s no man on this pier that I haven’t had There’s no man on this pier I could swear to be your dad And when the bubble bursts I can’t hide the smell And when I feel most hurt I hope that you can’t tell And when I take my last breath I’ll take you as well

I found the light I was touched by the hand of a child on a pushbike My collar was felt in a lay-by, lured by a constable’s sweet smile I’m going away for a long time There’s a voice in my head saying goodbye I’ve spoken to god one or two times ‘Trevor,’ he says ‘you’re a good guy’ But my wife left me for her mother My dog left me for my brother With some luck I might find a lover With my luck I don’t think I’ll bother I’m going away for a long time There’s a voice in my head saying goodbye I’ve spoken to god one or two times ‘Trevor,’ he says ‘you’re a good guy’

Oh man of egg and cheese you rearranged my dreams and now the future’s bleak and nothing’s as it seems you’d pay to watch me bleed then leave within the week oh will the next in line be luckier than I? I’m willing to be saved fortune favours the brave but the money’s not enough life’s cruel, life’s tough I’ll manage on my own just get out of my home there’s no more weak at knees for man of egg and cheese

Soberstars 02:13
They’ll find me in an empty bar Staring into space Not super Not sober But firmly in my place I’m ozone friendly, affection free It’s half-past drinking up time Uptown, downbeat and fortified With beer and cheap red wine And through your arse the sun will shine As deities come and go you’re sublime I’d do anything just to see you smile So meet where the sky hits sea Let trawlers and pub crawlers rescue me From pound of flesh collection time

Scrape your face from off the floor Fingers bloated, knuckles sore One more pint, or maybe four And I wish you’d take some notice Barry Mick and Dot Tie your fingers burn the knot Take your lovers by the hand Join our three-wheel one-night stand One more pill and into bed Let’s just say I was easily led Will you miss me when I’m dead Do you think you’d even notice Barry Mick and Dot Tie your fingers burn the knot Take your lovers by the hand Join our three-wheel one-night stand You think that you might be our saviour I’ll cross your palm for years to come I’ve seen you now I’ll raise you Cos I am never coming home Barry Mick and Dot Tie your fingers burn the knot Take your lovers by the hand Join our three-wheel one-night stand Barry Mick and Dot Tie your fingers burn the knot You’re the lovers time forgot And I think I owe you lots I owe you lots

Tumblers 03:44
A few swallows short of a summer I’d spring into action and go with the flow She would never take no for an answer She didn’t worry, just led me down a one-way street and drove me up the wall I didn’t bother, at first I was flattered Sooner or later I wished it never happened I could never say I’ve had luck to push And I’ve never wanted much at all With plenty good reasons for making my excuses I’d take a diversion And follow the slippery road home And all the time these pointed questions I can’t cope when the answer lies behind my back I didn’t ask for that Legless let’s stowaway, head down the motorway Oh give me a hair of the dog then please lead me astray It’s not asking much, it’s not asking at all It’s nearer to begging As I ran through the door I fell to the floor I picked myself up and cringed as you looked Her beautiful gaze became a distant haze It’s all becoming a blur Well I wish it was

about

‘The Bug’ was originally conceived as a mini-album in its own right way back in the dark mists of time. Or about 1998, if we are being precise.
Some of the songs were to see light of day amongst the four-track recordings of Johny Nocash’s band Echolalia. Others could be found released by his next project, Broken Down Lorry.
The songs never made it... Well, we could stop there, but let’s continue; the songs never made it to their originally-intended destination, instead forming a hotchpotch of odd arrangements and recording quality until they were all re-recorded especially to enable to find their spiritual home, which of course is here.

Situated in a northern town is a public house, It is called The Bug for reasons of legend, rumour and necessity. The Bug is a source of leisure, employment, romance and humiliation for a whole range of characters. Some of these characters have found their way into songs.
The tales contained within these songs are all true but told with the necessary artistic licence to protect the innocent. You might know these characters, you might know them by name, because they live, work, drink and socialise in the same pub as you.
The characters in these songs are all human. We are all human. We all make mistakes. There is no judgement here. Apart from the egg and cheese man: he’s a tosser.
